Juvenile Law Series: Introduction

Hi, everybody. My name is Ashley Saenz. If you usually tune into our weekly Whalen Law Office videos, then you know that I look a little bit different than the attorney who usually does these videos. Ryan Sandel is our senior associate here at Whalen Law office, and he does a great job on the videos. But we were thinking that it would be a great idea to do a Juvenile Law Series. I am the new attorney in the office. I am the junior associate attorney. I got my Bar results in December. So I am just really excited to be gaining more experience, learning a lot more about the law, and just navigating what it’s like to be a new lawyer. I personally am very passionate about juvenile law, and I think it is so important, especially when we consider how many of the children who were impacted by the juvenile justice system actually end up moving forward and ending up in the criminal justice system.

If you’re not familiar with juvenile law in Texas, juvenile law gives courts jurisdiction over children ranging from the ages of 10 to under 17 who have committed a crime. So that is what juvenile law is all about. And my favorite thing about it is that there tends to be a lot more focus on how we can rehabilitate these children, teach them what they did wrong, how to learn from their consequences and their actions, and move on from there. So like I said, I love it. I’m excited to delve into it more with you guys. I am hoping to do a monthly video over juvenile law and just get the series rolling. And yeah, just answer any questions you guys may have.

Feel free to shoot me an email or call me at the office if you have any questions. And hopefully, we can do a video on it, or I can at least answer the question in my video. Or I’m just happy to talk to you guys, whether you’re another attorney who’s just interested in juvenile law, or you might have a client that’s wrapped up in juvenile law, or if you’re a family member of a child who’s going through the juvenile justice system right now, or if you’re a child in the juvenile justice system right now, I’d love to have the chance to talk to you and just see how you’re doing and how your experience is going. We also represent juveniles here at Whalen Law Office. So with that being said, I’m happy to do these videos and see you guys over the next couple of months. And hopefully, I will be able to answer some of your questions and get you as excited about juvenile law as I am.
