Texas DWI Lawyer: Crackdown on DWIs this Holiday Season

For most Texans, the holidays are time for celebration—of family dinners, football games, and parties. Unfortunately, it’s also a time for drunk driving.

Studies show that the number of fatal crashes soar during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Coming home from all the festivities, drivers on the road during this time are far more likely to be intoxicated. Last year, Dallas County alone witnessed 49 DWI-related fatalities.

To combat this deadly problem, Texas law officials are planning to heighten their DWI enforcement efforts this holiday season. “We’ve got to break the cycle,” Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye told reporters from Dallas Morning News. “As a society, we must collectively send a message that driving while intoxicated is no longer acceptable.”

Part of their plan to combat DWIs involves enforcing a no-refusal policy, getting warrants to legally require blood samples from DWI-suspects who will not submit to a test willingly.

Avoid DWI This Holiday Season

While driving home after a couple of glasses of spiked eggnog may seem harmless, you may face serious legal consequences if your blood-alcohol content tests over the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

The number of drinks it takes to reach the legal limit varies from person to person, depending on weight, sex, and how fast you were drinking. During the holiday crackdown, more and more drivers will be pulled over, and more and more will be forced to submit to a blood-alcohol test, even if they try to refuse.

The best way to avoid a DWI? Don’t drink and drive. If you plan on drinking, ensure you have a designated driver or another way of getting home.
